I know this is a politically incorrect thing to do, but I'd like to de-lurk
and ask a potentially flame-worthy question at the same time:
I'm a current non-developer ("sales engineer" = human API) with a Job that
is too here-and-now (read: revenue oriented) to provide me with my requisite
amount of high-level abstraction. Thus, I read dist-obj and the sites
mentioned in the postings, and think back to my days as an NLP person in
Japan, when ontologies and knowledgebase representation schemes were more
actively my hobbies... and I thus achieve some amount of contentment ;-]
I was planning to come to the dist-obj JavaOne get-together myself, and
ended up mentioning it last Friday to some (3) people I know who aren't on
the list, but arguably should be. (I don't know if any of them will actually
be able to show up, either...)
Would it be appropriate for me to invite them? (They are highly clueful: CS
grad students, and similar ilk)
The reason I ask is that it was mentioned that people at the last such
gathering actually got a chance to put some code together, so I wouldn't
want to distract people with new arrivals if that's otherwise likely to
happen again.
But I thought that you all seemed like the type of "interested" people that
I should be sharing beer with more often, so I thought I'd ask.
Anyway, let me know what you think,
Evan
... If not... perhaps I can just get them to join the list first, and they
may show up next time.
