     thank you very much for your help.
     
     I own Tanenbaum's "Distributed Operating Systems" already but the new 
     one seems to be a complete re-write and certainly worth buying it. I 
     only wish I could explain things the way Andy Tanenbaum can (;-)
     
     The Open Distributed Processing Standard seems to be very clear and I 
     will go through it carefully.
